Labster is an AR startup helping teachers & students across the world to get study faster & efficiently by providing virtual labs experience.
Interexy was the team supporting them on the journey of app development from existing web product from Day 1.
We began by carefully overviewing & understanding the current situation – Labster was a Series B startup with successful complex working web product wanting to jump into a mobile space. We also had time constraints since Labster’s management wanted to move fast – they were also willing to provide any support we needed.
The goal of the build was to develop a functional MVP in the short time frame to present to the board of directors to continue the development of the app further. We had MVP build, limited time-frames & presentation to the board in our minds when working on the MVP of the project.

UI Kit was developed to adjust to the current web-product design so users can familiarize themselves with something they know already – we also wanted to make it appealing for both university professors & students and easy to use on the go.
We were developing the design following Agile methodology in close communication with the development, QA & management team. We had the challenge of making the complex product simple, yet functional, appealing to both students & professors which are two separate target audiences with their own behaviors & preferences.
One of the UX challenges we solved is structuring of the search features on the product – through the years existing web version had gathered a range of content that was needed to be shared in the app. We decided to add visuals & search categories with tips arrows and text tips to simplify the user flow.
Labster wanted the app to focus on education a lot – we had a range of useful studies & content we needed to showcase through the app & properly display with search functionalities to make it easy & beneficial for users with gamification elements to learn.
Science-related quizzes implementation was another major feature of the app we were carefully planned from the UI & UX point of view – studying might become boring sometimes so we made sure to gratify the users with dopamine hits through motivational design.

Self-assessment functionalities to prepare for exams are also one of the key features of Labster to train students before exams.
Nested bookmarks functionalities were also planned by the UX team & implemented with the help of developers & engineers – to establish quick access to the parts of the educational content the user is studying at the moment.

Product development started in a rapidly changing environment following Agile methodology – we were supporting both front-end Flutter & backend node.js parts of the project along with UI/UX design-build. We decided to use Flutter as a programming language due to its simplicity, performance & coding speed as well as native experiences for both iOS & Android in one cross-platform solution which Flutter provides. Microservices for the backend were planned as well to adjust to extendability requirements – we knew we were working on the MVP but we needed to do it functional to allow for the growth the product achieved afterward.
Gamification & storytelling were our focuses as a part of Labster brand since you can’t develop an engaging e-learning product focused on rapid growth without having these two pieces in place – if the product becomes boring to use if it doesn’t gratify the users for usage and doesn’t have gamification features it will eventually become boring & won’t allow for growth.
Flutter was the technology of choice due to its User Experience capabilities – we wanted to have native iOS & Android flows, animations & performance without losing the share of iOS & Android users by developing native apps.

A huge part of the app development was adopting & integrating existing Unity simulations into the product & adjusting them for a mobile space to allow for the core features of the service.
We had a separate team of Unity engineers with mobile development experience to assist on the project & cope with the implementation of these parts of the functionality on a proper level following best mobile Unity development guidelines.
One of the app goals was to establish a clean & clear way to access the content already prepared & gathered by the Labster team for learning purposes – that’s one of the main improvements the team wanted to make through a mobile version of the product.
We carefully architectured the API requests flow for the mobile version of the project structuring in a way to allow fast & non-UI blocking front-end & back-end communication lightweighting the requests & making sure requested data is showing correctly on the app – we mainly used elastic searches for that.
Labster team was able to approve the continuation of app development with the board of directors & successfully passed Series C with the help of a mobile version of the service.
Labster mobile application became a huge success with 100.000+ download on Google Play & an average rating of 4.5 with over 8500 app reviews serving the students & teachers worldwide.
The app strengthened the company’s position on the marketplace allowing it to extend to mobile space and improve retention rates & creating a new revenue generation channel through product development.

Within its first nine weeks, the app received 8,000 users and a 4.7-star rating. The platform is well designed and hasn’t had many bugs. Interexy LLC is fast and efficient at building new features as well as taking scope changes in stride. Expertise and responsiveness are hallmarks of their work.
I got an amazing product that was exactly what I envisioned when I first sat out & drew the plans. The two areas that I think where Stan & his team particularly excel: first is attention to detail (…) & secondly the kind of support they’ve provided after the app was largely complete. I’m sure the number of teams just do the bug work & leave it but they are [Interexy team] always on hand to answer any questions really at any time of day which is incredible. So I’d encourage anyone who wants to build any sort of product to use Stan & his team. It’ll accelerate your business and make your life a whole lot easier.
Before choosing Interexy, I’ve hired a firm out of India – they gave me a great price, great timeline (…). And after close to a year, they told me they couldn’t get the project done. Then I started to talk with Stan from Interexy. I hired them, they quoted me 8 weeks to get this project done, well, 8 weeks later – the project is done. Now I just have nothing but a great thing to say about the company – they were on time, great communication and just great people there. I’d 100% recommend Interexy for any web development or app development project that you have out there, they’re just fantastic.
