Carter Cabassa and Alex Michailoff were only two enthusiastic students in the University in Florida who decided to provide their peers with a brand-new solution for social life. They came to Interexy with an idea in mind – create an application that will allow people to live a happier and funnier life during university times and after. They collected money and decided to take our company as a trusted developer who will realize this idea through an award-winning product.
While there are many popular applications where people can share news about their life, like Instagram and Telegram, they are not made with teens in mind. Most of these platforms lack confidentiality, smooth workflow, and simplicity, as they are intended for people of all ages and have no barriers.
During COVID-19, Smak’s founders saw how their peers at University struggled with feeling lonely and isolated from social life. They understood it was time to change something and develop a custom application that would provide students and older people a safe place where they could chat with others, share news, and discuss something with no worries. While developing this app, we faced an issue with creating a well-thought-out system of tracking users’ content. However, we had only two months to provide clients with a ready-to-launch product with no bugs, so we put all dedication into this problem and solved it within a week. We developed an application that allows users to easily get through the registration phase, create a personal profile, post a video, photo or text content and vote other’s posts using 1-5 grade. In order to enter a particular group, the user first had to get an invitation. This ensures the safety of shared content, allowing students to decide who will join their chat and whether they want someone to see their thoughts.
Once our BAs collected all information from clients, we carefully chose every team member for the project. We ensured all specialists from project managers to the QA team are aware of minor points admitted by Smak’s founders and have relevant experience with social applications, ensuring outstanding results and compliance with the industry’s policy privacy requirements.
Moving forward, users can also create a special anonymous chat with a particular person to secretly discuss interesting questions without worrying if someone can see their personal life. If someone is dissatisfied with content, photos, or videos provided by other users, they can easily complain per post. In case the post harshly violates the rules of the community, the admin can block the post, user, or both.
Since we had a limited budget on the UX/UI design, we decided to follow simplicity as the key to ensure accordance with the budget and still fascinating design of the application. For the UX part of the design, our team conducted preliminary research to familiarize the target audience they’re designing for and understand their pain points.
Our UX team ensured the app provides smooth and understandable human interaction with services and content provided, meaning, while making the product usable and ultimately desirable.
Going to the UI design, the final product has a match between the system and the real world, provides user control and freedom in actions, follows consistency and industry’s highest standards, is flexible to use, and has a minimalist aesthetic design.
