Interexy played a pivotal role in creating Paired, an innovative iPhone game designed to connect Canadians from diverse backgrounds. Every Friday, players across the country compete in real time to solve cooperative puzzles and win cash prizes of $100. Players are randomly paired each week based on opposite choices from a selection screen, creating a dynamic and varied gaming experience.

Project functionality App idea and features

Paired is an online mobile game that takes place every Friday at 8 PM Toronto time. All players receive a push notification alerting them that the game is about to start. Tapping the notification brings them to a selection screen where they choose whether they are rural or urban, etc. Based on these selections, the game pairs them with someone who chooses the opposite. The options and partners are different each time.

Once paired, players are introduced to their partner and their location in Canada. The game consists of three turn-based puzzles the partners need to solve together: a jigsaw puzzle, a word scramble, and an ordering puzzle. The fastest team to complete all three puzzles splits the $100 prize, and the leaderboard displays the weekly winners.

Project delivery Development process

Our front-end developer was involved in building the app from scratch from the project’s inception. Key components included creating a seamless and engaging user interface and integrating push notifications through OneSignal to alert users about game timing.

Our back-end developer focused on optimizing the server performance and fixing bugs related to gameplay. Initially, the server struggled to handle the influx of users simultaneously joining the game. To address this, we transitioned some logic to Python and utilized AWS Lambda to manage WebSocket events efficiently, allowing the system to handle a larger number of players smoothly.

The app has been released and is currently in the support phase, where we continue to refine features and enhance performance based on user feedback. Our team has increased the player capacity, optimized game logic, and fixed numerous bugs, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable user experience.
